It’s reminiscent of a simpler way of life with shuttered second-floor front windows, curtained side windows, and a shingle roof.  The large open windows on the back and sides allow you to see through the house, from front to back.
A pile of wood out front reminds you of the importance of using firewood to warm these abodes, and the tall Dalmatian standing on guard behind the stone fence completes the picture— a humble English countryside dwelling.
